This VDA publication serves as a starting point for determining, specifying, tracking, documenting and archiving special characteristics. These must be agreed between customer and supplier throughout the entire supply chain.

This publication is a recommendation for the practical use of significant and critical characteristics, while complying with the framework conditions set out in standards and in legislation. As a process model the VDA publication Product creation; maturity level assurance for new parts has been taken by way of example. If preferred, a company's own in-house product creation process can be used.
