Quality Management in the Automotive Industry - Quality Assurance: Emissions and Fuel Consumption - CoP tests on passenger and light commercial vehicles
Summary
The introduction of the Emissions Standard Euro 3 & 4 by the EU directive 70/220/EEC, modified by 2006/96/EC and the EU directive 80/1268/EEC, modified by 2004/3/EC (regulations covering CO2 and fuel consumption) brought into use new requirements for monitoring the conformity of production (CoP). The directives demand comprehensive action by the automotive manufacturers to ensure the quality of exhaust emissions and fuel consumption levels (hereinafter referred to as emissions and fuel consumption).
In continuation and in consideration of future technologies the European Commission has decided to replace the above directives with the introduction of the Commission regulation (EC) 715/2007, extended by 692/2008 (Euro 5 & 6). The above directives relating to Euro 3 & 4 are no longer to be applied in Europe after 2. January 2013.
In the 3rd edition the automotive industry has taken account of the modifications in emissions legislation. The new Commission regulations regarding the standard have been integrated as from Euro 5. The directives up to and including Euro 4 have been up-dated as extracts in the appendix. A new appendix, also in the form of extracts, is the EU Commission regulation(EC) 692/2008 (from Euro 5). Test, inspection and calibration intervals are now defined more clearly. New technologies such as hybrid or particle-counting procedures have also been taken into account.
