IEEE Draft Standard for Monitoring of Photovoltaic Power Stations Using Unmanned Aircraft Systems

Summary

New IEEE Standard - Active - Draft.
The monitoring of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) has become an important tool for monitoring the operation status of photovoltaic (PV) power stations due to its high efficiency and accuracy. In order to standardize the hardware and software configuration, as well as operation technical requirements of the UAS monitoring to meet the requirements of UAS monitoring of PV power station, this standard specifies the technical requirements of the hardware components and communication architecture of the PV power station UAS monitoring system, the grid division of the patrol area, the selection of the UA hangar location, the coordination between the equipment, the UAS route planning and the monitoring task scheduling, etc., and puts forward the classification, identification and positioning requirements of defective PV devices based on optical and infrared image analysis. This standard can be used for UAS monitoring in the operation and maintenance stage of PV power stations.

This standard specifies the technical requirements for photovoltaic power station monitoring by Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). These requirements cover the hardware components and communication architecture of the monitoring system, the division of the patrol area into mesh segments, the selection of UAS hangar locations, the coordination among devices, UAS route planning, and monitoring task scheduling. It defines requirements for classification, identification and location of defective photovoltaic modules based on optical and infrared images analysis.
The purpose of the standard is mainly as follows:
(1) To promote standardized resource allocation of power station operators, to carry out unmanned aircraft monitoring operations according to local conditions, and to facilitate the iterative optimization and upgrading of hardware and software manufacturers' products, through standardizing the hardware and software configuration and operational technical requirements of unmanned aircraft monitoring in photovoltaic power station.
(2) To promote the application of unmanned aircraft monitoring technology in photovoltaic power stations, and to realize the intelligent operation and maintenance and scientific supervision of photovoltaic power stations from rough to fine transformation.
(3) To improve the intelligent level and efficiency of unmanned aircraft monitoring of photovoltaic power stations, through standardizing an intelligent division of unmanned aircraft routes, automatic cruising, intelligent identification and classification of defects, automatic generation of monitoring reports.
(4) To reduce the risk of accidental collision of drones and to provide safety protection for ground facilities and personnel, through standardizing the safe operational requirements of photovoltaic power station unmanned aircraft.
