This Guide addresses system and equipment design techniques and equipment selection that can improve electrical safety. The techniques in this Practice are intended to supplement the minimum requirements of installation codes and equipment standards.

This guide describes electrical system, equipment, and protection design techniques to enhance electrical safety to persons who manage, operate, and maintain electrical distribution. The techniques in this guide supplement the minimum requirements of installation codes and equipment standards. This Guide does not include high voltage systems, communications, programming, or life-safety such as fire alarms and security.
This Guide addresses the need for a "tool kit" of techniques to enable the system designer to make informed choices of system configuration, specify equipment features, and apply protective schemes that increase electrical safety.
