IEEE Draft Guide for Protective Grounding of Power Lines

Summary

Revision Standard - Active - Draft.
Guidelines are provided for recognizing electric shock hazards while performing maintenance on de-energized AC overhead transmission and distribution lines, selecting the appropriate mitigation technique, isolation, insulation, and equipotential grounding,

This document provides guidelines for grounding methods to protect workers and the public from voltages that might develop in a jobsite during de-energized maintenance of overhead transmission and distribution lines.
This guide suggests several practices, technical information, and safety criteria for temporary protective grounding of power lines during de-energized maintenance. As an IEEE guide, this document does not have mandatory requirements. Following the suggestions in this guide helps to mitigate risks. Reasonable steps are to be taken by users to minimize all risks associated with protective grounding of power lines during de-energized maintenance.
