IMO

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is the United Nations specialized agency responsible for ensuring the safety and security of maritime transport and preventing pollution from ships. The main role of this global authority is to establish a regulatory framework through standards governing the maritime industry.

IMO measures cover all aspects of international maritime transport - including the design, construction, equipment, manning, operation and scrapping of vessels - to ensure that this vital sector remains safe, environmentally sound, energy efficient and secure.
