This Recommendation specifies the test method for determining the changes in elastomers caused by the action of refrigerant/chiller oil mixtures. Both R134a according to SAE J2776 and R1234yf according to SAE J2844 as well as the corresponding oils are taken into account.
The procedure may be used to:
- To carry out suitability tests on various elastomers eligible for such an application (quality determination).
- Carry out comparative investigations on different delivery batches of a certain elastomer quality (quality assurance).
The tests shall preferably be carried out with the standard specimen described in section 3.1. Taking into account the influence of the specimen shape (thickness, volume, form factor and others) and the condition of the test specimen (all-sided or one-sided vulcanizing skin, ground surface and others), the test can also be carried out on finished parts.
Standard rods type 3 or type 4 according to ISO 37 are permitted for the testing of finished parts.
Other test specimens, e.g. entire finished parts or finished parts sections, require an agreement.
Test comparisons can only be made on test specimens of the same geometry.
There shall be a period of at least 16 h and a maximum of 6 months between the vulcanisation of the sample and the examination by this method.
