This standard applies to the cathodic corrosion protection if indoor areas onboard watercraft and floating equipment through galvanic anodes according to VG 81257 (hereinafter referred to as anodes). The standard contains regulations for the calculatory design of the internal protection and the anode arrangement. The standard only applies to surfaces that are loaded for a sufficient period of time, at least 50 % of the operating time, with an electrolyte solution of sufficient conductivity, at least brackish water. In fresh water and river water, the effectiveness of the anodes is limited. Uncoated stainless steels are not protected cathodically if they are suitable for the corrosion load. Coated stainless steels shall be cathodically protected.
